Carrusel (Spanish pronunciation: [karuˈsel]) is a Mexican telenovela based in the Argentinean original Jacinta Pichimahuida, produced by and first broadcast on Televisa in 1989. It covers daily life in a Mexican elementary school and the children's relationships with a charismatic teacher named Jimena (Gabriela Rivero). Among other plot devices, it deals with the differences between the upper and lower classes of Mexican society — specifically as seen in a romantic relationship between Cirilo, a poor black boy (played by Pedro Javier Viveros), and a spoiled rich girl, Maria Joaquina Villaseñor (played by Ludwika Paleta).

Carrossel (Portuguese name) is also telecast in Brazil. First shown in 1991, it reached an audience of 20 million. The actress who portrayed the teacher, Gabriela Rivero, became well known there.[1] A Brazilian remake named Carrossel was released in 2012.
