Caroline Pennell (born December 27, 1995 in Saddle River, New Jersey) is an American singer-songwriter. She was a contestant on the fifth season of The Voice.[1]

Early life

Pennell was born in 1995, to Bonnie and Kieth Pennell. Pennell cited that music was a huge part of her childhood. Pennell has three younger siblings: Bailey, Lucy, and Davis. Caroline was born in Saddle River, New Jersey, and has lived there her whole life.

On The Voice

Caroline Pennell auditioned for the fifth season of the American series of The Voice. She turned the chairs of CeeLo Green and Blake Shelton with her blind audition singing "Anything Could Happen" from Ellie Goulding.[2] She chose CeeLo Green. In the battle rounds she battled Anthony Paul, singing "As Long As You Love Me". CeeLo chose to save Caroline. Then in the knockout round, she faced George Horga, Jr. singing "The Way I Am". She was again picked by CeeLo to advance to the Live Rounds. In the Live Rounds, she sang "We're Going to Be Friends" by The White Stripes, and was saved by viewer votes. In the top 10, she sang "Leaving on a Jet Plane" but landed in the bottom 3. Right before voting in the "Instant Save" system to pick one in the bottom three to move forward, Caroline and Tessanne Chin performed Lorde's "Royals". Caroline was predicted the underdog in the bottom three, but after her performance Twitter blew up, with Caroline receiving 80% of the votes, and moved forward to the top 8. The next week, she sang "Dog Days Are Over" and landed in the bottom three. Matthew Schuler was picked on Twitter by the "Instant Save", with Caroline Pennell being eliminated off the show.

Caroline originally picked Green, "Because she says that comfort is a big thing for her, and CeeLo radiates comfort. I just always wanted to hug him".[3]
