Carol Jerrems (1949–1980) was an Australian photographer who produced the image Vale Street.[1][2] Jerrems studied photography at Prahran College 1967-70. She is mainly known for documenting the counter-culture spirit of Melbourne in the 1970s. Jerrems was born on 14 March 1949 at Ivanhoe, Melbourne[1][2] and died from a rare form of cancer in Melbourne 1980. Her life and work is partly described in the documentary Girl in a mirror, 2005.
Exhibitions of work
Jerrems was among the photographers included in Candid Camera: Australian Photography 1950s – 1970s, a group retrospective held in 2010 at the Art Gallery Of South Australia. Her work was also represented in an Exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales entitled "What's in a face? aspects of portrait photography" held from December 2011 to February 2012.[3]
