The Carlucci American International School of Lisbon (CAISL) is a non-profit, non-denominational, co-educational day school in Linhó, Portugal. It is providing study to approximately 550 students from Early Childhood (age three) through Grade 12 (approximately age 18).

Facilities

CAISL's expanding campus offers a number of quality sports and educational facilities. The campus comprises three academic buildings as well as a newly opened covered gymnasium of 15,000 ft2, more than 100,000 ft2 of exterior sports fields, a snack-bar and a cafeteria, a Fine Arts Center with dedicated classrooms for Music, Art and Drama and a 450-seat fully equipped theater. The academic buildings include a library/media center (with over 35,000 items including print, non-print, audio-visual and electronic resources), two computer labs, and four science labs. As part of its Strategic Plan to integrate technology into the 21st Century learning environment, CAISL initiated a laptop program. In 2012-2013, Students in Grades 7 through 12 are learning in a 1:1 laptop environment and each was provided a laptop to use at school and at home as a tool for learning. Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 have available at school a 2:1 (2 students: 1 laptop) laptop environment.

Affiliations

CAISL is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the Council of International Schools (CIS), and is licensed by the Portuguese Ministry of Education (ME). CAISL is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and offers the IB Diploma Program only for the last two years of High School. CAISL is the only school in Portugal with sponsorship from the US Department of State. CAISL is governed by a three-member Board of Trustees appointed by the US Embassy, Visteon Portuguesa and Grupo Espírito Santo.

Diploma

All students who complete CAISL’s graduation requirements earn an American high school diploma. Additionally, those who fulfill the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program requirements, earn an IB diploma. CAISL graduates are eligible to apply for entrance into universities around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Portugal and other European countries.
