Carlisle, Hamilton, Ontario
Carlisle is a community in Flamborough, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Carlisle lies at the intersection of Carlisle Road and Centre Road, about 15 kilometres north of Waterdown.
Notable Attractions
The downtown of Carlisle is located at Carlisle Road and Centre Road. The downtown area has: 2 cornerstores,TD bank, Zoro's drycleaners, flower shop, dvd rental store, LCBO/ Beer Store, Edward Jones investment branch, RP's Pizza, Bistro's (formerly a bakery, meat shop, and residence), Canada Post, hair cutting store. Just outside the "downtown" area is a medical centre and pharmacy, 2 private chiropractic locations, and most well known, the Carlisle Community Centre. There is also a public library in the same parking lot.
The Carlisle Golf & Country Club is a 27-hole public golf course that is part of the KANEFF group that also has various golf courses across the Golden Horseshoe, including Lionhead, Royal Niagara, Century Pines, and Royal Ontario.
There also used to be a province-famous Bluegrass Festival every summer
Carlisle is home to Progreston Falls
Carlisle also used to have an Ostrich Farm, but the animals were deemed too dangerous.
Carlisle is also the home of the Dutchman's Gold honey company where all natural honey is grown and made.
Parks and Recreation
Carlisle has many soccer fields, many parks, baseball diamonds, farms, and small forests.
Courtcliffe Park is a naturalized area with streams, bridges, walkways and trails. There are 4 middle-sized soccer fields and 1 mini soccer field in the park, as well as parking. This park also contains swings, and non-traditional play equipment designed for 5-12 year olds, although 9-14 year olds find it particularly attractive because it challenges them.
The Carlisle Conservation Area is located within the village of Carlisle along Bronte Creek, east and west of Centre Road, and is administered by Conservation Halton. Trout were stocked in this reach of the creek in the 1970s. Existing fishing opportunities are generally restricted to pumpkinseed, creek chub and white sucker; however, largemouth bass, northern pike and brown trout may also be angled in the slow-moving waters. A parking lot to the north of Bronte Creek off Centre Road provides excellent access to this area
Education
Two elementary schools exist in Carlisle, both at the intersection of Centre Road and Consession Road 10 E, just north of the town proper.
Balaclava Elementary School is a K-8 public school administered by the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School is a pre K- grade 8 catholic school and daycare centre. It is administered by the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board
Upon graduation, students from these schools may go on to attend Waterdown District High School or St. Mary Catholic Secondary School (Hamilton, Ontario)
Film and television
Carlisle is home to the Bates & Green gas station, the location used in filming some scenes from the Canadian comedy series The Red Green Show. The Carlisle Public Arena has been used on at least one occasion for the filming of a major motion picture. Carlisle General Store was used in the film The Ref.
