Carl Schmidt (legislator)

Carl Henry Schmidt was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate.

Biography

Schmidt was born on September 30, 1835 in Prussia.[1] He moved to Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1854. During the American Civil War, Schmidt served in the Union Army, reaching the rank of captain.

Political career

After representing the Third District of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin in the Assembly, Schmidt was elected to the Senate in 1870, defeating John Carey. He remained a member until 1874. Additionally, he was Trustee of Manitowoc in 1867 before being defeated for re-election in 1868. He was a Democrat. He died in 1888.[2]
