Carl M. Casale
Carl M. Casale (born 1959) is a businessman in the agricultural industry, currently President and Chief Executive Officer of CHS Inc. He was born and still lives in Willamette Valley, Oregon.
Education
Carl Casale has a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Oregon State University and a Master of Business Administration from St. Louis-based Washington University.[1]
Academic achievements
In 2009, Casale was named an alumni fellow by the Oregon State University College of Agriculture. In addition, he has served on the board of the National 4-H Council.[2]
CHS
As CEO and President of CHS, Carl Casale was the first outside hire in these top positions. During his first year in these roles, he was noted for his record growth and the revenues he accrued for the firm. In addition, this year saw strong commodity prices securing a profit of close to $1 billion for the firm.[3]
Employment history
Carl Casale has held a variety of executive positions in the agribusiness sector in different companies, the two main ones being: board member at Ecolab Inc. and various key positions at Monsanto Company, where he has worked since 1984. This included: sales representative, strategy, marketing, technology roles, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Operations, Executive Vice President of North American Commercial Operations and finally his highest promotion which was Chief Financial Officer.
Of his work at Monsanto, he said: “I'm incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to work at Monsanto Company. On his departure from the company, Monsanto CEO and Chairman, Hugh Grant said: “On behalf of the board, the management team and all Monsanto employees, we would like to thank Carl for his many contributions and wish him all the best in his new role.”[4]
Casale was also a member of the board of directors of Nalco Holding Company,[5] a Director of Nalco Holding Co. and Co-Lead of U.S. Markets-Pharmacia Corporation. He is also on the boards of the National Cooperative Refinery Association, Ventura Foods, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, Greater Twin Cities United Way and the Minnesota Business Partnership.[6]
Personal life
Today, with his wife Kim, Carl Casale lives in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Area. Together, the two run a 100 acre blueberry farm near Aurora, Oregon. The farm has been in business with marketing cooperatives for generations. The couple has three children.[7] Casale grew up on a vegetable farm that remains in the family today.
