Carey "Murderleg" Spear (born January 5, 1992) is an American football kicker, currently playing for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Vanderbilt Commodores.

College career

A three-time captain and three-time All-Academic honoree at Vanderbilt, Carey Spear set a school single-season record as a senior in 2013 with 99 points while connecting on 15 of his 19 field goal attempts. Spear averaged 60.6 yards per kickoff (including 22 touchbacks).[1] Spear garnered second-team All-SEC accolades as a junior as he led the conference in field goal percentage (83.3% - 20 of 24 attempts). His 20 field goals that year were the most in a single season in school history.[2]

Professional career

Philadelphia Eagles

On May 10, 2014, Spear signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. On August 18, 2014 Spear was rated by EA Sports the makers of Madden 15 as the hardest hitting kicker in the history of the video game franchise. According to the Madden 15 developers, Spear has a hit power of 73.[3] The Eagles kicker has a hit rating higher than Richard Sherman, Osi Umenyiora and Darnell Dockett.[4] He was released by the Eagles on August 23, 2014.

Personal

Carey Thomas Spear is the son of Tom and Theresa Spear, and has two brothers, Charley and Colin. His dad is a business manager and his mom is an electrical engineer. Carey attended Mayfield High School, located in Mayfield Village, Ohio, where his true rise to stardom began on the Mayfield Wildcats football team.[5]
