Cardiff Harbour Authority was formed on 1 April 2000 as part of Cardiff Council and is the statutory navigation authority for Cardiff Bay. It took over responsibility from Cardiff Bay Development Corporation for the management of Cardiff Bay which includes the bay, Cardiff Bay Barrage, the outer harbour and the River Taff and Ely.
The authority was also given responsibility for the land areas of Roald Dahl Plass and the graving docks and is funded by the Welsh Government.[2]
As well as these, the harbour authority also manages a number of facilities:
- Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (Now located in Wales Millennium Centre)
- Cardiff Bay Water Activity Centre
- Cardiff International White Water
- Cardiff Sailing Centre[3]
- Flat Holm Project
- Norwegian Church
