CarProof Vehicle History Reports is a Canadian provider of vehicle history reports used by consumers and businesses when purchasing pre-owned vehicles.
History
CarProof was created in 2000 and is based in London, Ontario. Paul Antony, the co-founder and Chairman of the Board at CarProof, recognized through his experience running a car dealership that no service existed for a cross-Canada lien search on used cars. He, along with a team of founders, created CarProof to provide Canadians who are buying or selling used cars with accurate details about a vehicle’s history as well as lien information.[1] The President and CEO of CarProof is Ed Woiteshek.[2] Recent news releases indicate that CarProof is creating and launching new products and is poised to become a multi-product company.[3]
Product and Services
CarProof offers three different vehicle history reports, which are available in French and English: CarProof Verified, CarProof Verified BC and CarProof Claims. The company also offers a vehicle screening tool called QuickProof.
CarProof Verified BC is the company’s most comprehensive vehicle history report. It was created specifically for vehicles that are or ever have been registered in British Columbia. This report includes: ICBC Claims info, accident data, import and export data, registration and branding information, full U.S. history and lien information.[4]
CarProof Verified is a vehicle history report available for all vehicles in all provinces, excluding B.C. This report includes: accident data, import and export data, registration and branding information, full U.S. history and lien information.[5]
CarProof Claims is a vehicle history report created for consumers who have already been provided with the required lien information. If that person is certain that there is no possibility of an existing registered security interest in Canada on the vehicle in question, then they may prefer to use a CarProof Claims report. This report does not include lien information but does include: accident data, import and export data, registration and branding info and full U.S. history.[6]
QuickProof is a screening tool that gives you the ability to instantly and cost-effectively find out whether or not a vehicle has ever sustained damage. “Damage” includes searching insurance accident/collision estimates, police reported accidents, U.S. findings and Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan (CAMVAP) buy-backs. QuickProof is only available on vehicles over 10 years old and can be purchased by anyone on any vehicle, as long as you have that vehicle’s VIN (vehicle identification number).
Beginning in 2013, CarProof has also been working on expanding into the insurance and claims industry to provide services and products to these sectors.[7]
Partners
In addition to being used by consumers, CarProof is also a resource for Canadian car dealers, major car manufacturers, lenders and insurers, provincial governments, auto auctions, law enforcement agencies and the Canadian Automobile Association.[8]
In August 2013, CarProof announced that it sold a minority stake to Hellman & Friedman, a San Francisco-based private equity investment firm. As a result of this partnership, CarProof plans to grow the company and continue expansion plans into new markets.[9]
