Candy Girl (album)
Candy Girl is the debut album by New Edition, released on the Streetwise label, in 1983.
Production and conception
The title song was written and produced by Maurice Starr after seeing New Edition perform at a talent show. He signed them and had them record "Candy Girl" in a small studio in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The band members were between the ages of 13-15 when the song was released.[1]
Singles
- Their debut single, "Candy Girl" was New Edition's first single, it topped the UK Singles Chart and was the first number one single to include rapping.[1]
- The second single, "Is This the End" didn't chart as well as their debut performing outside of the Top 40 in the UK and US.
- Their third singles "Popcorn Love" and "Jealous Girl" both released as a double sided single charted outside of the top 100 in the US.
