Canada national indoor lacrosse team is one of the best national lacrosse teams in the world. They proved it already in 2003, on the first World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, held in Canada. Their biggest rival are probably Iroquois Nationals, who finished second after Canada. The same results repeated on World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2007. Team Canada consists of professional players, who are members of National Lacrosse League. A lot of players also play in MLL, and are members of field lacrosse national team, but World Lacrosse Championship is not so successful sport event for Canada.

World Indoor Lacrosse Championship

WILC 2003

The first World Indoor Lacrosse Championship was held right in Canada, so their player wanted to show their skills as much as possible. Canada entered the tournament as the most predicted winner. They went through the six-team group without any loss. In Semifinals they beat Team USA, so they were heading in the Gold Medal match. Team, led by captain Jim Veltman, won this match against Iroquois Nationals 21-4 and became the first World Indoor Lacrosse Champion ever.

WILC 2007

The second World Indoor Lacrosse Championship was held in Canada again, this time in Halifax. Team Canada was again the main candidate for a victory in this tournament, but Iroquois Nationals and USA were also thinking about the most valuable medal. This time, tournament was firstly divided in two groups of four teams. Canada met subsequently Ireland, Australia and USA. They prevailed in all three matches so they got to the Semifinals, where they would met England. Canada won in this match 24-8, so they moved to the Final, where they met Iroquois Nationals again. But this time, the match was much more closer. Canada was losing during the second and third quarter, but thanks to two goals of John Grant, Jr., they reverse the result. Iroquois proved to equalize, so the match had to be decided in overtime. After thirty seconds, Jeff Zywicki scored his first goal in this match, so Team Canada could be crowned as the World Champion again.

WILC 2011

In 2011,the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship was held outside of North America for the first time. Czech Republic was selected as the venue. The system of the tournament remained and Canadians met in their group teams Australia, England and Slovakia. Canada went through unbeaten again. They got to the Final over Team USA in a very close game, with result 15-10. In the Final, they met with Iroquois players again, but this time the game was not as close as four years ago and Canada won 13-6.
