Caloplaca ignea (flame firedot lichen) is a brilliant red-orange crustose areolate lichen found in the southwetern United States.[1]:241 It has narrow to linear lobes radiating from its center (placoidioid), being paler in color at the outer edge.[1]:241 It is in the Caloplaca genus of the Teloschistaceae family.[1]:241 It has small .3 - 1 mm apothecia discs.[1]:241 In the foothills of the western United States Sierra Nevada (US) it grows with brilliant yellow Acarospora socialis to add spectacular color to the scenery.[1]:3
