Call of Duty: Black Ops III is an upcoming 2015 first-person shooter video game, developed by Treyarch and published by Activision.[1] The game is a sequel to the 2012 game Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and is expected to be released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 6, 2015.[2][3]
Plot
Call of Duty: Black Ops III takes place in a dystopian future, set in 2065, forty years after Black Ops II, where science and technology have radically changed the human species, with society violently protesting and attempting to halt further progress. Military technology has progressed to the point where robotics play a main role, and supersoldiers have been developed. Humans are coming to the point where they are more machine than flesh and blood and there are many speculations about some type of takeover by robots. "How far can we push technology before it starts pushing back?" was a line that caught attention in the new "Ember" trailer.[4] The game will follow a team of black ops soldiers, like previous installments in the Black Ops series, with supersoldier capabilities.[5]
Gameplay
The campaign, multiplayer and the Zombies mode of Black Ops III have been completely overhauled. The campaign supports 4-player cooperative gameplay, a fully customizable soldier (male or female), and more open arena gameplay that allows for replayability to find all possible ways to get through a level. The Multiplayer introduces a new movement system, a new class system called "Specialists", and a new "Gunsmith" feature that allows for weapon customization combinations. Lastly, Zombies return with an all-new narrative separate from the campaign and its own XP progression system.[6]
Development
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the twelfth game in the Call of Duty franchise, and the fourth entry in the Black Ops series. This is the second game to benefit under publisher Activision's three-year development cycle. The cycle allows each of the developers of the Call of Duty series (Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games) to develop games in a three-year timespan, as opposed to the two allowed previously. The change from two to three year cycles was introduced to allow Sledgehammer Games to share the window of game releases in the franchise. Their first game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, was the first to benefit from the three-year cycle, and was released in November 2014.[7][8]

Reveal
Teasers have been released beginning with Snapchat links[9] appearing in the gameplay of Black Ops II as well as a teaser video released by Treyarch and analyzed repeatedly within its first 24 hours of release.[10] On April 26, 2015, the first reveal trailer for the game was released and revealed the return of the Zombies mode and beta access for people that pre-order the game for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The full game is set to be released on November 6, 2015.[2]
Pre-order
Call of Duty: Black Ops III and its Digital Deluxe Edition counterpart are available to pre-order on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with the season pass, which can also be ordered separately. Pre-ordering provides access to the Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta and in-game items for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, such as custom reticles, an emblem, a calling card, and Advanced Supply Drops. PlayStation 4 users also get a Call of Duty: Black Ops III theme.[11]
