"Caliente" is a song by Romanian recording artist Inna. The song was written by Inna and produced by her producers and managers Play & Win (Sebastian Barac, Marcel Botezan, Radu Bolfea). Inna uploaded a shorter version of the song on her YouTube channel on 16 February 2012. Then its official radio edit was released on 4 May 2012 on iTunes. On 14 May 2012 an official music video was released on Inna's YouTube Account.[1]
Background
"Caliente" was Inna's first self composed song in her career. Produced by the Romanian songwriter and music producer trio Play & Win, the track was recorded at the Play & Win Studios in Bucharest, Romania. Similar to "Un Momento", the third single taken from Inna's second studio album I Am The Club Rocker!, "Caliente" combines elements of euro-NRG, dance-pop and latin pop, and was written in both English and Spanish. The song's title can be translated as "Hot". Inna starts singing the chorus in Spanish: Caliente es tu amor/Caliente es tu amor/Yo quiero soñar/Contigo mi amor (meaning: Your love is hot/Your love is hot/I want to dream/With you, my love) and continues to sing verses in Spanish and the bridge in English.[2] Inna uploaded a first version of the song on her YouTube channel on 16 February 2012.[3] With a total length of two minutes and fifty-four seconds, it was much shorter than the official radio edit, which was released on iTunes on 4 May 2012, having a running time of three minutes and twenty-one seconds.[4]
Music video
The accompanying music video was released on 14 May 2012 on Inna's YouTube Account. Directed by Hamid Bechir and John Perez, the video was shot over three days in April 2012, on Costa Rica's tropical beaches both of the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It shows Inna walking through a white sand beach and the crystalline waters, exploring coastal caves and posing in front of stunningly beautiful waterfalls. A foreign man, played by Jesus Luz, a Brazilian model, DJ, and former boyfriend of American pop singer Madonna, keeps an eye on Inna and draws closer to her. They finally start cuddling on the beach, while, at the end of the video, Inna jumps through the shallow water wearing a black dress.[1]
Chart performance
After releasing the music video for "Caliente", the song entered the Romanian Top 100 at number ninety-three on 27 May 2012 and only peaked at number eighty-four on the chart. It was heavily in competition with another of her song, "Tu şi eu", which debuted on the Romanian Top 100 on 17 June 2012 at number ninety-five and exceeded "Caliente" on the following week, as it rose up to number sixty-seven.[5] "Caliente" continued to perform poorly on the chart and left it on 22 July 2012 after only eight weeks.
