Cachar Express

The Cachar Express is a daily overnight Indian Railways express train from Lumding Jn (nearest BG rail link of Silchar) to Silchar (second largest city of Assam) and vice versa, both stations are situated in the Indian state of Assam. The train is numbered as 15691 and 15692 respectively.

Information

Originally these train ran between Guwahati (capital of the state Assam)and Silchar but after conversation of MG line of Guwahati-Lumding to BG, the originating and ending station of these train had changed. This train is the first option for the passengers willing to travel by train between Silchar and Guwahati, it is an overnight train. There is another train that runs on these line viz Barak Valley Express, though named Express it runs in the status of a passenger train.

Cachar Express departs from Lumding as 15691 at 20:15 and arrives to Silchar at 6:25, and departs from Silchar as 15692 at 19:00 and arrives to Lumding at 6:10. The train in its both up-down journey covers a distance of 219 km (136 mi) in 11 hours with an average moving speed of 20 km/hr, which is slow in comparison to the BG trains.

The train is hauled by the YDM-4 class of Lumding MG diesel loco shed locomotive. 15692 is connected with two locos, one in front and another in the rear for pulling and pushing its way to the height of Barail Range, from Harangajao to Jatinga. The important station in which Cachar stops are Arunachal JN., Katakhal JN., Badarpur JN, Lower Haflong, Mahur, Maibong, langting. It has a length of 12 coaches with both AC and Non-AC accommodation. 2AC-1, SL-6 Gen-4 and 1 generator van. Cachar Express is connected by BG trains in Lumding for passengers to Guwahati and from Guwahati.

The train passes through 36 tunnels in Barail Range made during British Era. The line through which Cachar passes is under the National project of line conversion.
