CPAmerica International is one of the largest associations of independent CPA firms in the United States. It includes more than 80 firms with almost 170 offices in 40 states. The total staff is nearly 4,500 employees, which includes more than 700 partners. Member firms vary in size from $2 million to $60 million in firm revenues, averaging $8.2 million. The number of personnel ranges from 15 to 245.[1]
Only one member is accepted to the association in each 50-mile (80 km) radius except for a few major cities. Member firms receive practice management advice, information sharing between firms, CPE training, marketing products and access to national consultants. They communicate via discussion lists, conference calls, an online sharing library and regular nationwide conferences and regional meetings.
CPAmerica International is a member of Crowe Horwath International. The international network includes nearly 600 offices worldwide with almost 30,000 employees. In 2009, it was ranked as the ninth largest accounting organization in the world. Worldwide revenue of Crowe Horwath International firms is almost $3 billion, of which approximately $830 million is from CPAmerica affiliated firms.[2]
History
The association was founded in 1978 by eight firms as Accounting Firms Associated, Inc., and its headquarters was later established in Gainesville, Fla. By 1990, it included 43 firms. In 1998, with 60 members, it formed a strategic alliance with Crowe Horwath International.[3] The name was changed to CPAmerica International in 2000. The following year, it moved into a 16,000-square-foot (1,500 m2) headquarters building in Alachua, Fla. In 2012, the headquarters moved again to downtown Gainesville, Fla.
Notable Members
- S. Scott Voynich, managing partner of Columbus, Ga., member Robinson, Grimes & Co., P.C., served as president of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in 2003.[4]
- Many CPAmerica firms have been honored as “One of the best companies to work for” by Accounting Today magazine.[5] In 2008, Atlanta member Frazier & Deeter, LLC, was named the No. 1 accounting firm to work for in the country.
- David Graling, former managing partner/partner of Bethesda, Md., member Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman, was honored as a "Managing Partner Elite" by Accounting Today magazine.

Crowe Horwath International, an international group with headquarters in New York City, has worldwide membership that includes 140 firms with nearly 600 offices and almost 30,000 employees. In 2009, it ranked as the ninth largest accounting organization in the world, with overall firm revenue of almost $3 billion.[6]
CPAConnect was established by CPAmerica in 1994 as a companion association for smaller firms and sole practitioners. It has nearly 250 members in almost 40 states, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Total revenue of all member firms is approximately $155 million, and average size is seven employees, which includes two partners.[7]
