The CAF Civity is a family of trains for regional train services made by CAF of Spain.

Description

The Civity is a modular concept which can be delivered as an Electric multiple unit, Diesel multiple unit, Diesel-electric or Dual mode. This family of trains is designed for 4 different power supplies: 1500 V DC, 3000 V DC, 15 kV AC and 25 kV AC. Each unit has shared motor bogies and a low floor of 860 mm. [1] The design was launched in 2010.

Electric

Available in 3 to 8 cars (59.20m to 140.20m long), which can seat between 220 and 560 passengers.

Diesel

Available as Diesel-mechanical and Diesel-hydraulic. Available in 2 to 5 cars (43m to 91.60m long), which can seat between 152 and 356 passengers.

Dual mode

Available in 3 to 8 cars (59.20m to 140.20m long), which can seat between 220 and 560 passengers. Can operate from diesel and electric supply.

Diesel-electric

Available in 2 to 8 cars (43m to 140.20m long), which can seat between 152 and 560 passengers. Can operate from diesel and electric supply.

Trenitalia

The Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giuila ordered 8 ETR 563 5-car units in 2010 for Trenitalia. Four more units were ordered, which are able to operate into Slovenia and Austria. The units were delayed into service as they could not be approved. [2]

Željeznički prevoz Crne Gore

Three Class 6111 EMUs were delivered to the Railways of Montenegro specifically to serve the Podgorica-Nikšić railway, cutting travel time to only 50 minutes. The first of the new trains started with service on July 13, 2013.[3][4] These are 3-car units.

Pasažieru vilciens

Latvian railway operator Pasažieru vilciens ordered 34 electric and 7 diesel-electric units in 2012. The order includes 30 years of maintenance and is worth 400million euro's. These sets are for the 1,520 mm (4 ft 11 2732 in) Russian gauge broad gauge and electrified at 3000 V DC. The trains have 3 carriages and operate at 140 km/h. [5]

Nederlandse Spoorwegen

The Dutch Railways (NS) ordered 120 Civity sets in 2014 for 510 million euro's. These are to replace the NS SGMm and the remaining NS Mat '64 sets. The train is knows as the Sprinter New Generation by the NS. The trains will be delivered from 2018 and can operate at 160 km/h. [6]
