Militarization
It was a place of minimal risk until around 1999-2000, before the September 11 attacks. After that, and the attack on Sansad Bhavan, some terrorists found this, and the surrounding area, resulting in the tightening of security up to a very high level and the stopping of all the activities and entertainments. This put the area out of focus for the peok of the Wardha River and easily accessible to three districts, Wardha, Amaravati and Yavatmal.
Local industry
There are two companies in the town, Shri Krushna Industries' Cotton Mills (erstwhile PCM) and Vidarbha Phosphates.
