Cécile McLorin Salvant
Cécile McLorin Salvant is a French-American jazz vocalist. She was born August 28, 1989 in Miami, Florida.[1]
Salvant was the winner of the first prize in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2010 [2]
After completing high school, Salvant moved to France, where she studied classical voice and then began studying jazz with woodwind player Jean-François Bonnel.[3]
Salvant records for the Detroit-based record label Mack Avenue Records [4]
Salvant won four categories in the 2014 Down Beat Critics Poll: Jazz Album of the Year, Female Vocalist, Rising Star–Jazz Artist and Rising Star–Female Vocalist.[5] She was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2014 for her album Womanchild.
