Cândido Coelho Tavares (30 December 1911 — 18 June 1997) was a Portuguese Goalkeeper which played for Casa Pia, Lusitano Evóra and Benfica, and then coached Benfica, along with other clubs like Vitória Guimarães, and also serving as Physical coach in the Portugal national football team in 1956.

In 1951-52 season, as assistant manager of Ted Smith, he took over the team after he left in December for personal reasons. In March 1952, Ted returned but left in April. Cândido managed the team during Taça de Portugal successfully winning it against Sporting[1][2]
