Charles “Butch” Wade (born April 15, 1945 in Columbus, Indiana) is a former American collegiate basketball player.
High school career

Butch Wade attended Columbus High School in Columbus, Indiana. He led the Bulldogs to an undefeated season in 1963; reaching the 3rd round of the State Tourney in 1963. He was a member of the Indiana All-State Team. He also led the Bulldogs to a IHSAA Sectional title in 1963.
College career

After high school, Wade attended Indiana State University, located in Terre Haute, Indiana. He played basketball under head coach Duane Klueh; leading the team in scoring and rebounding his entire career; he finished his career as the #1 career scorer (he's now #3) and the #1 rebounder (#2 behind Larry Bird). He helped lead the Sycamores to two consecutive ICC Championships and two NCAA College Division (now Division II) Tournaments. He was part of the "Columbus Connection," as he and two fellow Columbus teammates—Jerry Newsom and Steve Hollenbeck) all played at Indiana State. These three players led the Sycamores to a record of 46-11 during their two seasons of varsity play. In his Senior year, he led the Sycamores in scoring with 27.3 points a game while being named a Consensus All-American, and[1] received his third straight First Team All-ICC selection. He was named the MVP of the Steel Bowl Tournament in December 1966, the Sycamores were the Finalists, dropping a hard-fought contest to Columbia.[2] He was a 2nd team All-American following his sophomore season.
As a junior, Wade led the Sycamores to a record of 22-4 and the 1966 NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Tournament; his senior season, they were equally successful, finishing with a record of 20-4 and returned to the 1967 NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Tournament.
Professional career
New York Knicks
Butch Wade was selected as the 72nd overall pick in the 1967 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks.[3] He was also drafted by the Oakland Oaks of the ABA in the 1967 draft. He did not appear in a game but went on to a successful teaching and coaching career in his hometown.
