Busyconinae is a taxonomic subfamily of very large edible sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks, often known as the Busycon whelks, in the family Buccinidae.
Taxonomy
Genera Busycon and Busycotypus were placed in Melongenidae.[1] Based on digestive system and on cladistic analysis by Kosyan & Kantor (2004)[1] was subbfamily Busyconinae moved to Buccinidae. The same placement is also in the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) and the subfamily Busyconinae consists of two tribes:
Subfamily Busyconinae Wade, 1917 (1867)
- tribe Busyconini Wade, 1917 (1867) - synonym: Fulgurinae Stoliczka, 1867
- tribe Busycotypini Petuch, 1994
- Busycotypus Wenz, 1943
