Burnt Orange Report
The Burnt Orange Report is an American political blog that publishes news and opinion on Texas politics from a liberal or progressive point of view. Founded in 2003 by students at the University of Texas at Austin, the Burnt Orange Report has been developed into a professional blog and a "serious voice in Texas politics" that receives between 60,000 and 100,000 views per day.[1][2]
History
The Burnt Orange Report was co-founded by Byron LaMasters.[3] It is headquartered in the 501 Studios building at 501 N. Interstate 35 in Austin, Texas.[4]
As a source of information, the Burnt Orange Report primarily takes a liberal or progressive stance. According to its editor-in-chief, the Burnt Orange Report considers itself to be the "strongest ally" but also one of the "biggest critics" of the Democratic Party and its officials in Texas.[5]
2006 Texas gubernatorial election
During the 2006 Texas gubernatorial election, the Burnt Orange Report published videos of a 1980 stand-up comedy performance by Kinky Friedman, in which he satirically used racial slurs.[6][7][8]
2008 Democratic National Convention
The Democratic Party officially accredited the Burnt Orange Report to cover the 2008 Democratic National Convention, along with other blogs such as the Daily Kos, Pandagon and MyDD.[9] The Burnt Orange Report endorsed Barack Obama.[10]
