Burnsville Center is located in Burnsville, Minnesota. It is one of the larger enclosed malls in Minnesota with over 150 stores and approximately 1,100,000 square feet (100,000 m2). The mall opened in 1977 after Joe Rimnac sold farmland to Homart Development; however, the mall is now owned by CBL & Associates, a company which owns and operates over 100 malls throughout the United States.
Major stores
- Dick's Sporting Goods (51,364 sq ft.)
- JCPenney (147,641 sq ft.)
- Macy's (221,326 sq ft, formerly Marshall Field's and originally Dayton's)
- Sears (167,337 sq ft., including an Auto center, which is considered to be a separate yet combined store by Sears Holdings)
- Gordmans (formerly Steve & Barry's)[1]
Transit
The mall is also used as a transportation stop in the region, with bus service linking the mall to other destinations. Regular public transit service is provided by the MVTA. The center will to be a stop on the proposed METRO Orange Line bus rapid transit service to downtown Minneapolis (another major shopping destination in the region, particularly during weekdays). The Orange Line will run along Interstate 35W which runs just east of the mall.
