Parliamentary elections were held in Burkina Faso on 2 December 2012, with municipal elections for over 18,000 councillors held simultaneously the first time.[1] The result was a victory for the ruling Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), which won 70 of the 127 seats in the National Assembly.
Electoral system
The 127 seats in the National Assembly were elected by proportional representation in one national constituency of 16 seats, and 45 multi-member constituencies with between two and nine seats.[2]
Campaign
Over 3,000 candidates ran for the 127 seats,[1] whilst 74 parties contested the 16 national level seats.
