Burdwan II (community development block) (Bengali: বর্ধমান II সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Bardhaman Sadar North subdivision of Bardhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Bardhaman and Memari police stations serve this block. Headquarters of this block is at Borsul and Borsul (Unnayani).[1][2]

Borsul is located at 23°11′15″N 87°57′54″E / 23.1876°N 87.9651°E.

Burdwan II community development block has an area of 179.14  km2.[2]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Burdwan II block had a total population of 138,909, out of which 70,864 were males and 68,045 were females. Burdwan II block registered a population growth of 17.63 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Bardhaman district was 14.36 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 57,451 formed more than one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 17,104.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Burdwan II block had a total literacy of 68.11 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 77.78 per cent female literacy was 58.02 per cent. Bardhaman district had a total literacy of 70.18 per cent, male literacy being 78.63 per cent and female literacy being 60.95 per cent.[6]
