Bunnies By The Bay is a company that makes stuffed animals and baby clothes.[1][2][3][4] It was founded in 1986 by siblings Krystal Kirkpatrick and Suzanne Knutson and is headquartered in Anacortes, Washington.[5]

Background

The women created the bunnies as an escape from struggles they were having. Their father, Ron Beirnes, was skipper of the Altair and disappeared in the Bering Sea along with their uncle, George Nations, a cousin, and other boys they knew. This occurred on Valentine's Day in 1983. In January of 1987, their brother, Tony, disappeared on an 11 foot skiff. The sisters dealt with their grief by creating bunnies. As Suzanne said, “It was something to keep us busy.” [4]

Retail locations

They opened a retail store in LaConner, Washington in 1991 and one in Anacortes in 1994.[6]
