Kwon Ki Bum (Korean:권기범, born September 22, 1984), better known by the stage name Bumkey (Korean:범키) is a South Korean hip hop musician. He debuted in April 2010 as part of the hip hop duo 2Wins(투왼스) with Topbop of TBNY under CABA Entertainment. He is now a solo artist under Brand New Music.[1]

Life and career

Bumkey grew up in Seoul until his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 16 years old. He returned to Korea at the age of 21 to pursue a music career.

Bumkey became active in the underground hip hop scene in 2005. Early on Bumkey featured in the songs of both underground and mainstream hip hop figures including Dynamic Duo and Brown Eyes. After receiving surgery for problems with his vocal chords, however, Bumkey falsely believed he was no longer able to sing. It took two years of work and recovery for him to regain his singing ability.[2] After debuting in 2wins, Bumkey promoted actively on Korean music shows with Supreme Team and on various radio programs throughout 2010. He also featured in songs by Paloalto, Dok2, SouLime, and Dynamic Duo.[3]

Bumkey eventually signed as a solo artist with Brand New Music. He released his first single, "Bad Girl," on June 3, 2013. The song was produced by Primary and featured E-Sens of Supreme Team.[4] Bumkey released his second single, "Attraction," on August 16 with a music video starring Crayon Pop's Ellin.[5] The song was a success, ranking fifth on the Instiz iChart, a collation of all real-time Korean music charts, for the third week of August and topping the Gaon Digital Singles Chart.[6][7] Bumkey participated in Crayon Pop's concert 'PopCon' at Nuridream Square, Sangamdong, Seoul on October 30.[8] In mid-February 2014, Bumkey was introduced as the leader of the new hip hop group Troy under Brand New Music.[9] Bumkey was part of a world tour in May (as part of the Asian Music Festival Hip-Hop Series), holding concerts in New York City May 22, Seattle May 23, Los Angeles May 25, and Sydney, Australia May 30.[10]

On November 23, Bumkey appeared in Seoul Eastern District Court in a criminal trial which accused him of selling and taking illegal substances, specifically Ecstasy and Philopon, a type of methamphetamine. Bumkey denied the claims. The trial is ongoing.[11][12] On April 20, the court found him to be not guilty.[13]
