Budge Budge I (community development block) (Bengali: বজ বজ I সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Alipore Sadar subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Budge Budge police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Purba Nischintapur. Balarampur, Uttar Raypur and Birlapur are urban areas in this block.[1][2]

Chingripota, a constituent panchayat of Budge Budge I block, is located at 22°28′15″N 88°13′47″E / 22.4709300°N 88.2298580°E.

Budge Budge I community development block has an area of 26.92  km2.[2]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Budge Budge I block had a total population of 99,874, out of which 98,027 were males and 92,589 were females. Budge Budge I block registered a population growth of -16.38 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for South 24 Parganas district was 20.89 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 23,829 formed around one-fourth the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 660.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Budge Budge I block had a total literacy of 73.98 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 81.36 per cent female literacy was 64.82 per cent. South 24 Parganas district had a total literacy of 69.45 per cent, male literacy being 79.19 per cent and female literacy being 59.01 per cent.[6]
