Buddleja davidii 'Thia' (selling name Santana) is a cultivar which originated as a variegated sport of 'Royal Red', raised in 1997 by Rod Dransfield, of Knaresborough, England.[1] The shrub has suffered several other names in its short history; see Synonymy.
Description
Santana grows to a height of two metres, bearing leaves with broad, creamy yellow margins and speckled yellow centres. The panicles of purple-red flowers are 20 – 25 cm long.[2]
Cultivation
Santana has become widely cultivated in the United Kingdom, and was introduced to the USA in 2007, despite its reputation for poor growth and short life. [3] A specimen is grown as part of the NCCPG national buddleja collection held by the Longstock Park Nursery near Stockbridge.[2] Hardiness: USDA zones 7–9.[3]
