Buddleja davidii 'African Queen' is a cultivar raised by Dutch nurseryman W. Schoemaker at Boskoop in 1959. [1]

Description

'African Queen' grows to a height of 2.5 m. The foliage is dark green above, but silvery grey beneath, the leaves of average size for the species. The cultivar is chiefly distinguished by its deep purple flowers, among the darkest of the genus, the panicles 15 - 20 cm in length and appearing in summer. [2]

Cultivation

'African Queen' is widely cultivated. In the UK it is included in the NCCPG national buddleja collection held by Longstock Park near Stockbridge, Hampshire. Hardiness: USDA zones 5–9.[1]
