Bryce William Petty (born May 31, 1991) is an American football quarterback. He played college football at Baylor and was the Bears starting quarterback from 2013 to 2014.

Early years

Petty attended Midlothian High School in Midlothian, Texas. He was named District 15-4A Offensive Sophomore of Year after throwing for 979 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2006. As a junior in 2007, Petty threw for 2,042 yards and 16 touchdowns while also rushing for 101 yards and five touchdowns, leading this to be named first-team All-District 15-4A. As a senior in 2008, Petty earned second-team All-District 16-4A honors after throwing for 1,507 yards and 4 touchdowns and rushing for 166 yards and five more scores, even though he missed some action due to injury. In the national position ranking among quarterbacks, Petty was listed 25th by Rivals.com,[1] 35th by Scout.com and 54th by ESPN.com.

Petty also participated in track & field at Midlothian, competing in the throwing events and placing second at the 2009 District 16-4A Meet in the discus with a throw of 45.08 meters (147-9).[2]

College career

Petty played college football at Baylor University from 2010 to 2014. He spent his first three years as a backup.[3][4] After redshirting in 2010, Petty appeared in five games as a backup to Robert Griffin III redshirt freshman in 2011. He finished the season completing 3 of 4 passes for 43 yards. As a sophomore in 2012 he was the backup to Nick Florence playing in six games, completing 7 of 10 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. As a junior in 2013 he took over as the starting quarterback.[5][6] He finished the year with 4,200 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He also rushed for 14 touchdowns. As a senior in 2014, he passed for 3,855 yards and 29 touchdowns along six rushing touchdowns. He lead the Bears to a share of the Big 12 title along with TCU and brought them to the 2015 Cotton Bowl Classic against Michigan State. He threw for a Cotton Bowl record 550 yards, but also threw an interception on Baylor's final possession with 2 seconds left, sealing Michigan State's 42-41 win. Petty also finished tenth in the 2014 Heisman Trophy voting, receiving one first place vote.[7]
