BryanStars
Bryan Odell (born 22 May 1990 in Lincoln, Nebraska), better known by his online alias, BryanStars, is an online music blogger on YouTube. As of February 2015, his BryanStars Youtube channel has almost 600,000 subscribers.
Life
Odell was born on May 22, 1990 in Japan, where he lived until he was 8 years old before moving to Nebraska. He attended Lincoln East High School where he graduated in 2008.[1] Then he visited the University of Nebraska for two years but left university early to focus on his YouTube channel called BryanStars.[2]
The primary reason Odell created his YouTube channel was that the music industry didn't pay much attention for the rock and metal music scene:
″Everyone’s already talking about Justin Bieber. No one’s talking about Warped Tour or even Slipknot. I definitely go for my niche audience. There is a huge online following for these alternative rock bands. And MTV really isn’t about music anymore. So where do you go to find the next big thing?″.[1]
Nowadays, Odell earns more than 3,000 or 4,000 USD per channel visit per month. At the beginning he got 50 Dollars per month. In 2011 Bryan Odell won a 35,000 USD money prize and a multi-day workshop with professional online bloggers at the Youtube Next Up! contest which was awarded in New York City.[1][3]
YouTube channel
Bryan Odell is best known for his BryanStars Interviews YouTube channel which has more than 560,000 subscribers and more than 70,000,000 views on YouTube. He publishes interviews and music videos from bands of the rock and metal scene. Since his beginnings he interviewed acts such as Asking Alexandria, Pierce the Veil, Black Veil Brides, Sleeping with Sirens, The Ready Set, Blood on the Dance Floor, Escape the Fate, Blessthefall, Of Mice & Men, Memphis May Fire, Creed, Korn and Slipknot as well as artists like Rob Zombie, Keri Hilson, Cody Simpson, Mitchel Musso, and some winners of American Idol.[4]
His second YouTube channel BryanStars 2 is used for music video publications only. The channel has 32,000 subscribers and more than 2,000,000 views. On his third channel BryanStarsSings he uploads his own cover songs.
BryanStars Tour
For some years, BryanStars has organized whole music tours which lead through the whole United States. Bands like Her Bright Skies, Snow White’s Poison Bite, Farewell, My Love (Band), Late Nite Reading, Catching Your Clouds, Joel Faviere and Rocky Loves Emily played on that tour.[5]
Success
2011 BryanStars won at the YouTube NextUp! contest in New York City.[1] Newspapers like the New York Times, Artisan News and USA Today as well as TV channel NBC wrote or reported about his career as YouTube blogger.[2][3][6][7][8]
Never Shout Never incident
On June 3, 2012, Never Shout Never was interviewed by BryanStars, in an interview that was being covered by the New York Times. About halfway through the interview, Ingle cut Bryan off, calling his show "a joke" and his questions "bullshit". As a result, the band ended the interview, and BryanStars was in tears because of it. An outpour of support for BryanStars happened as a result, and many musicians shared their words of support including Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens.[9] In a Stickam broadcast, he had said he had felt bad that he made him cry. Ingle later admitted that he had taken acid earlier the day of the interview.[10][11] Ingle was arrested the same day for possession of marijuana.[12][13]
