Broadway railway station was a railway station that served the town of Broadway in Worcestershire, England. It was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1904 and closed to passengers in 1960 although the line through the station remained open for fast passenger trains until 1968.
(There was another Broadway opened by the GWR, in Dorset, but renamed Broadwey for a while, then Upwey)[1]
Preservation and Future
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is rebuilding the five mile section of track up to the site of Broadway station. The section between the station site itself and Toddington has re-opened as far as the site of Laverton halt, and track-laying is anticipated to begin during 2015, with services to the station to commence at the beginning of 2018.
Since the original station buildings were demolished in the 1960s, the station is being reconstructed by the GWSR.
The GWR Broadway Area Group of the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Trust started work clearing the derelict site in 2009 and have now rebuilt platform 1 and have almost finished the reconstruction of platform 2 during March 2013. Plans have been drawn up for the construction of a signal box on platform 2, along with other associated station buildings. These plans were submitted for planning approval and were approved, with work starting on the signal box early 2014. At a later date, a planning application will be submitted for car parking.
