Brittany Morin (born December 6, 1985) is an American entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Brit + Co., an online DIY community/e-commerce company based in San Francisco. She serves as tech correspondent for Katie Couric’s talk show Katie[1] and is a DIY and lifestyle contributor to the Today show.[2] She has been featured in publications such as Lucky, Glamour, People StyleWatch and Parade.[3]

Early life and education

Morin was born in San Antonio, Texas.[1] She studied business and communications at the University of Texas at Austin.[1]

Career

After graduation, Morin moved to Silicon Valley. She worked at Apple on iTunes and later spent four years at Google, where she worked on projects such as Google TV, Google Maps, Google Search, and iGoogle.[2]

In 2011, at age 25, she left Google to start Brit + Co., which is described as “an online platform and e-commerce company that inspires and enables the digital generation to make.”[3] The Brit + Co. Web site offers technology and product reviews as well as DIY projects called Brit Kits, which TechCrunch described as "monthly deliveries of boxes full of materials for making the most popular DIY crafts and projects featured on Brit + Co.’s 'creative living' editorial site."[4] Within a year after Brit + Co. was founded, Morin had built an online following of 2.5 million people.[5]

Morin is a member of Women at NBCU's Digital Advisory Board[6] and an advisory board member for Rally.org[7] and Threadflip.com.[8] In June 2012, Forbes magazine named Morin among its "Up-And-Comers."[9] Morin was among Elle magazine's six "million-dollar babes" in 2013.[10] Morin has been plagued by charges of plagiarism since her start-up began. The Silicon Valley blog Valleywag has been particularly critical of Morin and has questioned her content as well as the financial backing for her company.[11]

Personal life

Morin is married to Dave Morin, co-founder of the social network Path, and lives in San Francisco.[1]
