Bristol Mall is the only regional shopping mall serving Bristol, Virginia. Anchor stores of the mall comprise two Belk stores, as well as JCPenney and Sears. One of the Belk stores was previously Parks-Belk,[2] while the other, which opened as Miller's Department Store, later became Hess's and then Proffitt's.
In April 1999, Bristol Mall was sold to Aronov Realty Management of Montgomery, Ala., from an affiliate of Urban Retail Properties, Chicago, for $25 million[3]
Stores
Bristol Mall has the usual mix of restaurants, mall services, fast food, and other typical mall stores, as well as a movie theater. There are also eight food establishments including Chick-Fil-A. Piccadilly Cafeterias, an original Bristol Mall tenant since the mall's opening in the 1970s closed on May 23, 2011 when its lease expired. With Bristol being the home of country music, long before Knoxville or Nashville, for many years there has been a museum at the mall, showcasing the legacy this left to the area.[4]
Late 2008 and early 2009 was a hard time for the mall. It lost Subway, KB Toys, B. Dalton, Friedman's Jewelers, Foot Locker, Pretzel Twister, Villa Pizza, and the Wellmont Healthcare location. Also Village Theaters sold the 5 screen movie theater to Visionary Theaters who later closed the theater. Both groups are Chicago based.
In 2014-2015 the mall took additional blows falling on even harder times as JCPenney announced the Bristol store in the mall would be closing. JCPenney closed in early 2014. Belk also announced the store would be closing and moving to the Pinnacle a brand new shopping center being built on the Bristol, TN side roughly two miles from the mall. Belk is expected to open at The Pinnacle in March of 2015. The Tilt (a video arcade) closed in early 2015 and Harvey's Burgers a local restaurant closed in mid 2014. Sears will be the only anchor store left once Belk relocates to The Pinnacle.
Belk in the Bristol Mall closed in February 2015 and the store is now open at the nearby Pinnacle shopping center. Sears is now the only remaining anchor in this mall.
