Brian Kenneth Gibson was a South African football (soccer) player who plays as a midfielder for Balfour Park in the Transvaal First Division.

International career

South Africa XI

Gibson who was from Southern Transvaal, was part of a 17-man squad that toured Europe. He played 20 matches between 9 September 1953 and 11 November 1953. The clubs included Arsenal, Charlton Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Leeds United and Southampton. The countries were England and Wales.[1] He scored in a 4–1 win over England at Selhurst Park on 19 September 1953. He lost 1–0 to Wales on 3 October 1953.[2] He also played in the Netherlands and Portugal Tour between 17 November and 23 November 1953 losing 4–0 to Netherlands on the 17th, 3–1 on the 22nd and on 23rd, 4–3.[3]

National team

He made his debut on 22 November 1953 in a 3–1 loss in Lisboa.[4] He scored against England on 30 June 1956 at Kingsmead in a 4–2 loss. Daniel le Roux scored with him for SA and for England, the scorers were Bobby Robson, Gerry Hitchens and a brace from Peter Harris.[5] On 15 July 1956, he played his last match against England in a 4–1 loss at Police Ground with Gerry Hitchens getting a brace.[6]
