Bretleben is a municipality in the Kyffhäuserkreis district in Thuringia, Germany. It is located at the right side of the river Unstrut, between the towns of Heldrungen and Artern. It's situated at the railway connection between Erfurt and Sangerhausen, which branches off to Bad Frankenhausen and Sondershausen.

History

At the beginning of the 9th century Bretleben is mentioned as Bretalaho in a document the first time.
