Braintree Freeport railway station serves the large Freeport out-of-town outlet shopping centre on the southern outskirts of Braintree, Essex, England. The unstaffed single platform station is located on the Braintree Branch Line 44 miles (71 km) north east of London Liverpool Street railway station and has a platform shelter but no other facilities.
Adjacent stations are Cressing to the south-east and Braintree to the north-west.[1] The station opened on 8 November 1999.[2]
The station is served and operated by the Abellio Greater Anglia railway operating company. All services are scheduled to be operated by Class 321 electric multiple units, but occasionally Class 360 or Class 315 EMUs replace them. Services operate between Braintree and London Liverpool Street on Monday to Saturday, but only start and terminate at Witham on Sundays.
A self-service ticket machine has been provided on the station platform.
Despite having 1,500 free car parking spaces for the shopping centre and there being no pay machines on site, there has now been a charge implemented for long stay car parking beyond six hours with which you have to pay via phone or online, likely to catch out train users as signs in the car park are scarce.
Services
There is an hourly service northbound to Braintree and southbound to London Liverpool Street.
