Boy on the Rocks

Henri Rousseau's Boy on the Rocks, painted 1895–7.

Boy On The Rocks is a painting by Henri Rousseau. It was created during 1895–7.

Rousseau's work has been described as having a "mysterious poetry" and a "dreamlike force".[1] According to Nicolas Pioch's comments on the painting:

"Only a child can so bestride the world with such ease, and only a childlike artist with a simple, naïve vision can understand this elevation and make us see it as dauntingly true."

The painting was used on the cover of the May 19, 1999 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.[2]
