History
The Bowie City Police Department was established on September 18, 2006 with the swearing in of Chief Perez formerly of the District Heights Police Department. In the department's short tenure, it has grown to an agency of about forty sworn officers with a projected strength of around ninety.[3]
Organization
The Bowie City Police Department is a semi-independent police department from the Prince George's County Police Department. However it still requires some specialized assistance from the Prince George's County Police. The agency is projected to be a full service police department with K-9, a Detective Bureau, and Specialized Teams within the next few years.[4]
