Bourne End Academy, previously 'The Wye Valley School', is a co-educational secondary school in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, England. It is a secondary school, which takes pupils from the age of 11 to 18. The school is much smaller than an average secondary school, with just under 800 pupils attending every year. [2]

In September 1998 the school was awarded specialist school status as a Sports College and furthermore, in 2012, the school was awarded the status of a specialist Science College, by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).[3]

The academy offers a range of different opportunities to all pupils, including extra curricular clubs. In 2012 Wye Valley achieved 47% A*-C grades (including English and Mathematics) at GCSE with the results below national level placing it in the 4th quantile in comparison to other schools.[2]

The school's main entrance, situated on New Road.

The school was put in to a state of 'Special Measures' after both the school, and its management, were classified as 'Inadequate' by Ofsted in January 2013.[2] After the report, the school's governing body was disbanded, and an Interim Executive Board (IEB) was imposed, which as of March 2014, is still in place.

From its beginning, the headteacher of the school was Ms Linda Melton. After 30 years of service. Melton left in 2010 and was replaced by Mr Jonathon Oliver. Oliver announced his resignation from the school in July 2013 after a two month leave with Sharon Cromie taking role of Executive Headteacher. Cromie has recently passed the job on to Andrea Jacobsen, who was appointment full time headteacher in March 2014. An Ofsted report published on 2 April noted the school's relevant improvements since being placed in special measures. The school moved out of this rating after changing to an academy.

A-Levels

Bourne End Academy currently has a 6th form for students studying AS Levels and A2 Levels.

Bourne End Academy is also part of a partnership of four schools (that teach three of the twelve 'partnership courses' at their schools) to allow students at their school to additionally study Physics, Ancient History, Spanish, Economics, Textiles, Product Design and Law
