Borrowash Victoria Association Football Club is an English football club, Manager Steve Hamilton. Although originating in and deriving their name from the village of Borrowash, near Derby, Derbyshire, since 1983 the club has been based just across the boundary in the adjacent Derby suburb of Spondon.
History
The original club was founded in 1911 and were initially members of the Long Eaton and District Church League. Latterly known as Borrowash Wesleyan Youth Club, the club folded in 1957, only to be resurrected as Borrowash Victoria in 1963. The club gradually grew in stature and they moved from the Deans Drive ground to their current home at the Watkinson Construction Bowl in 1983. The ground is unusual in that it is next door to fellow East Midlands Counties League club Graham Street Prims F.C., with shared access to both grounds.
They joined the Midland League in 1979 and three years later Borrowash became a founder member of the Northern Counties East League. After four successful seasons, which saw them finishing in the top two in three of those seasons, they transferred to the Central Midlands League when that league was formed. In 1995 the club rejoined the Northern Counties East League, winning division one in 2000–01. However, a bottom placed finish in 2004–05 saw the club relegated back into the first division, remaining there until they became founder members of a new league for the third time when they joined the East Midlands Counties League for the 2008–09 season.
The club has reached the 4th round of the FA Vase twice in their history – 1990–91, and ten years later in 2000–01, the same season they won the NCEL Division One. The club has struggled in the FA Cup but did reach the third qualifying round in 1991–92, beating Macclesfield Town before losing to Emley.[1]
Prior to the 2012/2013 season Vice Chairman Fraser Watson replaced long serving Chairman Ian Anderson.[2] Ian is still heavily involved with the club and can be seen at most matches, along with other senior officials.
Manager
At the end of October 2014 Steve Hamilton was appointed the new Manager of Borrowash Victoria AFC. Well known on the non league football scene Steve's first task was to revitalise a team that was hovering too close to the relegation zone. By January 2015 only 3 players of the inherited squad remained at the club and fortunes on the pitch were showing signs of improvement.
The reserve team is jointly managed by Anton Broughton and Lee Daniels. The reserve team captain is Matthew Pearce.
Up until March 2013 Borrowash Victoria were managed by former Derby County trainee Mark Wilson who also played for Belper Town, Hednesford Town, Spalding United and Mickleover Sports. Wilson has been the team's manager since 2006 and helped the club win the East Midland Counties Cup in 2009 and again in 2012, the club's first silverware for almost a decade. Vics have won 3 runner up medals in four years in the East Midlands Counties League, Derbyshire cup semi finalists and reached the last 32 of the FA vase 2012–13 all under Wilson's reign.[3]
