Borouge, a manufacturer of polyoleofins, is a joint venture of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Austria's Borealis. It was founded in 1998, and has two complementary ventures: Abu Dhabi Polymers Co Ltd (Borouge) - a production company based in Abu Dhabi - and Borouge Pte Ltd based in Singapore.

The company supplies polyolefin plastics -polyethylene and polypropylene. They focus on differentiated high end applications in the Middle East and Asia Pacific with Borstar Enhanced Polyethylene produced in Abu Dhabi, UAE and the Borealis range of speciality products.

Borouge underwent an expansion programme (Borouge 2) in 2009 that raised polyolefins production capacity from the current 600,000 tonnes per annum to 2 million tonnes per annum by 2010.

Currently a new project (Borouge 3) is in process of development, and will increase production capacity by an additional 2.5 million tonnes per annum. The Borouge 3 project is due to commence start up operations at the end of 2013.

Borouge, in Arabic, means "towers" and relates to the high towers that support the loop reactors used in some of Borouge's polymer plants at its Ruwais. The company's headquarters are located in the Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex on the Corniche Road. The plant is about 250 km from Abu Dhabi.
