Book at Bedtime
Book at Bedtime is a long-running radio programme currently broadcast on BBC Radio 4 each weekday evening during 10.45–11.00 pm.
The first series started on Friday, January 21, 1949 with The Three Hostages by John Buchan.
Book at Bedtime offers fiction, including modern classics, and new works by leading writers and literature from around the world. Books are abridged and serialised each evening typically over a period of two weeks, sometimes one and occasionally three, in the case of a very long book. They are usually read by well-known actors. Occasionally, if a renowned author has brought out a collection of short stories, five stories from the book will be selected and one broadcast each evening, rather than serialising a novel.
