Boo Blasters on Boo Hill is an interactive family dark ride designed and manufactured by Sally Corporation. The ride is located at four Cedar Fair amusement parks — Canada's Wonderland, Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Kings Island. Originally themed to Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo, Cedar Fair rebranded the rides shortly after purchasing the parks from Paramount.[1] Each ride's new theme debuted in 2010 at all four parks.
History
In 2006, Cedar Fair purchased assets from Paramount Parks including Kings Dominion, Kings Island, Carowinds, and Canada's Wonderland.[2] Each park had a Sally Corporation dark ride themed as Scooby-Doo's Haunted Mansion.[3] During the 2009-2010 off-season, Cedar Fair began the process of removing Nickelodeon and Hanna-Barbera themes from each park.[4] As a result, Sally Corporation was employed to remove the Scooby-Doo themes from the rides and installing the new Boo Blasters theme.[3] All four parks received some form of the theme which debuted when the parks opened in 2010.[5]
Ride experience
Boo Blasters on Boo Hill is a dark ride where riders traverse in an Omnimover-style vehicle with laser guns that can be used to fire at lighted targets throughout the ride. Hitting a target enables additional animation, sounds, and special effects, as well as earns each rider points which are tallied and displayed inside the vehicle.[3] The ride layout and theme varies at each park location. Disposable ChromaDepth 3-D glasses are sold at the ride's entrance to enhance the blacklight paint effects throughout the ride.[6]
Kings Island
Guests enter the attraction through the front gates of an old Gothic castle. The queue takes guests through the foyer in the first room, which features large chandeliers and ghosts that raise and lower at a balcony up above. Before boarding the ride, guests walk through a corridor where lightning flashes through windows on both sides. Once in the vehicle, riders travel through a haunted cemetery and mansion, coming face to face with a multitude of skeletons and ghosts throughout the ride. The final encounter is with Boocifer, revealed as the primary antagonist. The vehicles then enter a final room with a display that shows riders how well they scored before exiting the vehicle.
