Boinchi (also spelt Bainchi or Boinchee) is a census town in Hooghly District in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is under Pandua Poilce Station in Chinsurah subdivision. It is a small town, having great scenic beauty. The town is located approximately 71 kilometres from Kolkata via Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line. Nearest Railway Station is Bainchi, which is under the Eastern Railway and a part of Kolkata sub-urban Railway System.

History

The name 'Boinchi' is originated from a fruit named “Boinchifool” since British Colonial Period.

Geography

Boinchi is located in 23.125107N, 88.197531E. It has an average elevation of 20 meters. This town include with some places like Batika, Berela, Vivekananda palli ( formerly Garoan para ), Charabagan Nunia Danga, Telcopa, Halder Dighi etc. and surrounded by some villages like Boinchigram, Bhonpur, Paira, Kochmali-Boragari, Hatni, Bilsara etc. This town is well connected by roads and railway. Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line passed through middle of this town. By road Boinchi is connected by G.T Road SH 13 ( Formerly NH 2B ) and State Highway 11 (Kalna-Gurap Road). A DVC cannel flows through the edge of this town.

Facilities and Education

Boinchi is a semi-urban town, provide major types of urban facilities. This town has own distributors for WBSEDCL and INDANE LPG. It has there petrol pumps. (Indian oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum). This town has three primary schools, one secondary school, two higher secondary schools and one technical college - Camelia Institute of Technology and Management ( Website - www.citm.in )

Demographics

As of 2011 census Boinchi had total population of 21780. Males constitute 50.71% of total population and females constitute 49.29% of total population. Boinchi has an average literacy rates of 70.80%. In male population 75.69% are literate and in female population 65.81% are literate.

Economy

This town is covered by pure agricultural lands. In this town there are five Cold Storages, three Rice Mills, one mineral water factory ( 'Swans' ) and many different types of small industries.

Jagadhatri Puja

This town is well known for its Jagaddhatri Puja. Besides Chandannagar, Boinchi organise a very good puja with quality of “Pandels”, Lights and “Pratimas” every year since when “Young Star” club introduced first “Jagadhatri Puja” at Boinchi.

Bandel-Bainchi third line

Honourable former RAIL MINISTER Mamata Banerjee ( Honourable Chief minister of West Bengal ) was announced and sanctioned an extra line ( Third line ) between Bandel-Bainchi. Work is presently running. It is rumor that the whole project will be completed within 2016. And then pair of EMU local trains will run either between Bandel-Bainchi or between Howrah-Bainchi.
