Bobov-45
Bobov-45, (45- חסידות באבוב) is a Hasidic group within Haredi Judaism originating in Bobowa, Galicia in Southern Poland and now headquartered in the neighborhood of Borough Park in Brooklyn, New York. Bobov-45 has large branches in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn; Monsey, New York; Manchester and London. In Israel, Bobov-45 has branches in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Ashdod, Elad, and Betar Illit.
In 2005 after Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam of Bobov died; Bobov split into two large sects worldwide. While 71% remained in the main center in Brooklyn on 48th Street, 29% left and started a new center in Brooklyn on 45th Street under the leadership of Grand Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger, the son-in-law of the fourth Bobov Rebbe, Naftali Halberstam. The dispute was later taken to an arbitration panel known as a beth din, which ruled that Rabbi Ben Zion Aryeh Leibish Halberstam, brother of the previous Rebbe and son of Grand Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam, had the exclusive right to the title "Bobover Rebbe". Grand Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger, leader of the new faction, was allowed to use the name Bobov but must place an added name (שם לווי) such as "45" near the name Bobov – hence, "Bobov-45". In addition, the Hasidut of Bobov was ordered to pay $6.2 million for Bobov-45 within the next 5 years.
History
Grand Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger is the current Rebbe of Bobov-45. He was born in 1954 and is the son-in-law of Grand Rabbi Naftali Zvi Halberstam.
Rabbi Yehoshua Rubin is the current Rav of Bobov-45. He is the son-in-law of Grand Rabbi Naftali Zvi Halberstam.
On November 18, 2014, the Bobov-45 Rebbe gave a historic speech for thousands of his Hasidim at a mass gathering in the Brooklyn Marriott, regarding living in peace with everyone, especially with our brothers in the other Bobov sect.[1]
Bobov-45 literature
In addition to those books revered by all Hasidim, the Bobov-45er Hasidim particularly treasure Kedushas Tzion written by the second Bobover Rebbe (published by the third Bobover Rebbe), and the teachings of the fourth Bobover Rebbe. The versions of the siddur used by Bobov-45 Hasidim is called Tfilas Rav.
