Bobby Ray Parks, Jr. (born February 19, 1993) is a Filipino basketball player. As 6'4" guard-forward, he played for the NU Bulldogs in the UAAP. He also played for the NU-BDO, NLEX Road Warriors and Hapee Fresh Fighters in the PBA D-League.
Early life and career
Parks is the son of the late Bobby Parks, who was himself drafted 58th overall in the third round of the 1984 NBA draft and went on to become a seven-time Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Best Import awardee and Hall of Famer.
Parks started playing basketball at the age of 13, when he and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. He played his ninth and tenth grades at St. George's Independent School in Collierville, Tennessee, where he became the state private school player of the year in 2009. He also led the Gryphons to the Tennessee Division 2-A state title game, scoring 29 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a last-second loss.
The following year, he transferred to Melrose High School and helped his team win a class AAA state championship. He committed to Georgia Tech but later decommitted and followed his father back to the Philippines.
NU Bulldogs
By the late 2010, Parks finally obtained the credits necessary to enroll at National University in Manila as a freshman and began starring for its team, the Bulldogs, in off-season tournaments. [1] During his first University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season with the Bulldogs, Parks had an average of 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 74th and 75th seasons.
Chasing the NBA dream
Towards the end of April 2014, he travelled to Memphis to apply for the 2014 NBA draft so he could pursue his long-time dream of playing in the NBA. [2]
On June 20, 2014 Parks was invited by LA Lakers to join their workout for the NBA draft. June 24, 2014 Parks was recalled by the Lakers to join their squad.
PBA D-League
With his school tie-up, he played for NU-BDO during the 2013–14 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.[3] Then, on March 21, 2014, he signed to play for the NLEX Road Warriors of the PBA D-League for the rest of the season. [4] He also signed to play for the Hapee Fresh Fighters.
